Which Networks And Coins Does Metamask Support? (Solved)

What Coins And Networks Does Metamask Support

Last updated on March 2nd, 2023

Metamask is an application that allows you to store multiple cryptocurrencies on your wallet.

However, did you know that Metamask does not support every single coin and blockchain network?

This is because Metamask only supports compatible networks with the Ethereum network (i.e. Ethereum Virtual Machines)!

Here’s what you need to know:

Which networks does Metamask support?

Metamask supports any network that is compatible with the Ethereum network, such as the Binance Smart Chain, Cronos and Avalanche networks. You will need to manually add these networks into your Metamask wallet based on the documentation given by each network.

The default network for all Metamask wallets is the Ethereum Mainnet. However, you are also able to connect Metamask to other blockchain networks, such as:

  1. Polygon
  2. Fantom
  3. Binance Smart Chain
  4. Avalanche
  5. Arbitrum
  6. Cronos
  7. Harmony ONE
  8. Velas
  9. HECO
  10. xDAI

You can find out more about EVM-compatible networks here.

Here’s how you can add any of these networks automatically to your Metamask wallet:

You may want to note that you will need to convert your Harmony address from the ‘0x’ address to the address that starts with ‘one’. You can read my guide here to find out more about sending ONE tokens to your Metamask wallet.

This means that you are able to use all of these networks on the same Metamask wallet!

Metamask Supported Networks

However, these networks are separate from one another, and Metamask does not allow you to bridge tokens from one network to another (e.g from BEP20 to ERC20).

Does Metamask support the Binance Chain (BEP2)?

Metamask does not support the Binance Chain (BEP2), and only the Binance Smart Chain (BEP20). The BEP20 network is an Ethereum compatible network, but the Binance Chain (BEP2) is a standalone network.

The Binance Smart Chain (BEP20) and the Binance Chain (BEP2) are actually 2 separate blockchain networks.

The deposit address for BEP20 starts with ‘0x‘, which will be the same deposit address as the ERC20 one.

Metamask Copy Binance Smart Chain Address

This is because the Binance Smart Chain is an Ethereum compatible blockchain.

However, the Binance Chain (BEP2) is not compatible with the Ethereum network, and its deposit addresses will start with ‘bnb’.

Crypto.com Deposit BNB BEP2 Details

You can view more about the difference between withdrawing BNB using the BNB or BSC networks on Crypto.com.

As such, it is not possible to add the Binance Chain (BEP2) to your Metamask wallet!

Does Metamask support the Solana network?

The Solana network is not an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chain, hence it is not possible for you to add the Solana network to your Metamask wallet. Moreover, you are unable to add SOL tokens to your Metamask wallet.

Metamask only works with Ethereum compatible networks, however, Solana is a separate blockchain network by itself.

As such, you will need to use a Solana-network specific wallet if you wish to interact with Solana decentralised applications (dApps) such as Raydium.

Some of these wallets include:

You can use most of these wallets to stake Solana, and you can find my guide here on how you can stake SOL on Exodus.

Does Metamask support the Tron (TRC20) network?

Metamask does not support the Tron (TRC20) network, so you aren’t able to send any TRC20 tokens from another platform to your Metamask wallet.

Similar to the Solana network, the TRC20 network is not compatible with the Ethereum blockchain.

You may be looking to send USDT or USDC to your Metamask wallet using the TRC20 network, as the withdrawal fees are much cheaper.

However, it is not possible to add it to your Metamask wallet!

Here’s what a TRC20 address will look like, where it may start with ‘T’.

Binance USDT TRC20 Deposit Address

This is different from an Ethereum or Binance Smart Chain wallet address, which starts with ‘0x‘.

If you are looking to send tokens via the TRC20 network, you are able to send the TRC20 version of USDT to wallets like Exodus.

Does Metamask support the Algorand network?

Metamask does not support the Algorand network, so you are unable to add it to your Metamask wallet. Moreover, you are unable to add ALGO tokens to your Metamask wallet.

The Algorand network is another network that is not compatible with the Ethereum network. As such, you won’t be able to add it to your Metamask wallet!

However, you are able to send it to your Exodus wallet and even stake your ALGO there as well.

Does Metamask support the Cosmos (ATOM) network?

Metamask does not support the Cosmos network, which means that you are unable to transfer native ATOM to your Metamask wallet. However, you are able to transfer the Ethereum or Binance Smart Chain versions of ATOM to Metamask instead.

Although the Cosmos network is supposed to be the ‘Internet of Blockchains’, it is not possible for you to add it to your Metamask wallet since it is not compatible with the Ethereum network.

If you would like to hold native ATOM, you will have to use another wallet such as Keplr or Exodus.

However, it is also possible for you to add the Ethereum or Binance Smart Chain versions of ATOM to your Metamask wallet.

For example, you can send ATOM from Binance to your Metamask wallet using the Binance Smart Chain (BEP20).

Binance Send ATOM BEP20

It would be best not to send ATOM via the Cosmos network to your Metamask wallet, as it may be lost forever!

Does Metamask support the Terra (LUNA) network?

Metamask does not support the native Terra network, so you would not be able to send native LUNA or UST tokens to your Metamask wallet. However, it is possible to add LUNA and UST tokens to the ERC20 or Binance Smart Chain, so you can send the BEP20 or ERC20 versions of these tokens to your Metamask wallet.

You are unable to add the native Terra network to your Metamask wallet, as it is not compatible with the Ethereum network.

If you would like to deposit tokens via the Terra network, you can consider using either the Keplr Wallet or the Terra Station wallet.

As such, you can’t send native Terra tokens to your Metamask wallet, so you can’t ‘stake’ UST on the Anchor Protocol with this wallet.

However, it is possible for you to send the ERC20 or BEP20 versions of these tokens to your Metamask wallet. You may want to note that these are different from the native Terra tokens.

For example, Gemini and Coinbase have listed the ERC20 version of LUNA and UST on their platforms. You can find out the differences between wrapped LUNA (ERC20) and native LUNA in my comparison here.

You will have to use either the ERC20 or BEP20 networks to send it to your Metamask wallet.

If you withdrew LUNA or UST to your Metamask wallet using the Terra network, your tokens may be lost forever!

Does Metamask support the Zilliqa (ZIL) network?

Metamask does not support the native Zilliqa network, so you can’t send native ZIL to your Metamask wallet. However, you are able to add ZIL as a token under the Binance Smart Chain, so you can send the BEP20 version of ZIL to Metamask.

Metamask does not support the Zilliqa network, so you can’t send native ZRC-2 tokens to your Metamask wallet.

However, you are able to send the BEP20 version of ZIL to the Binance Smart Chain network on your Metamask wallet.

You will need to withdraw ZIL using the Binance Smart Chain from a platform like Binance.

Binance Withdraw ZIL BEP20

If you send native ZIL to your Metamask wallet, there is a chance that you may lose your ZIL forever!

You can view my guide on how to add the Binance-Peg ZIL to your Metamask wallet.

  1. Native ERC20 tokens
  2. Tokens that are on networks which are compatible with the Ethereum network

If you’re looking to generate tax reports for your crypto trades, you can consider using Koinly, which allows you to track your transactions from 350+ exchanges and 50+ crypto wallets.
